For Good

For Good

Black sign, gutter-level.
White-lettered, centered,
CLOSED FOR GOOD.

Huddled round the legs
of the sign, geraniums,
red petals, green leaves.

Squat beige building.
Street number placed
over the door, tastefully.

  1. First stanza, great pulse. Sound-choice in effect.

  2. It's like the beginnings of a little kōan...I like the questions I'm hearing in my head now.

  3. I get contrasting thoughts in my head...is this closed for good really good or not good, huddled around the sign were geraniums..sign tastefully above the door...I think they were retiring just like two people down my corridor did but they placed no signs because they were not that happy I think ...have a great wednesday Hannah1
